Level 1: Describing data Problem 6 of 53 Pro

Population standard deviation

A statistics problem from Statisticsdrill. Solve it with one answer box, with a fresh sample on every attempt and the worked steps and spreadsheet function in the answer, and it is checked the moment you submit.

The task

These are the figures for every store in a small retail chain, so they are the whole population, not a sample. Weekly revenue in thousands of dollars: 63, 50, 42, 37, 39. What is the population standard deviation? Round to 2 decimal places.

What this problem teaches

The formula: σ = √( Σ(x - μ)² / N ).

A hint if you get stuck

For a whole population, divide the sum of squared deviations by N, not N - 1, then take the square root.
