Sample standard deviation
A statistics problem from Statisticsdrill. Solve it with one answer box, with a fresh sample on every attempt and the worked steps and spreadsheet function in the answer, and it is checked the moment you submit.
The task
A random sample of 6 minutes to resolve a support ticket (minutes): 46, 35, 28, 23, 26, 17. What is the sample standard deviation? Round to 2 decimal places.
What this problem teaches
The formula: s = √( Σ(x - x̄)² / (n - 1) ). STDEV.P would divide by n instead, which is only right when the data is the whole population.
A hint if you get stuck
Find the mean, add up the squared deviations from it, divide by n - 1, then take the square root.
